Individual Reflection
Hello everyone. My name is Novita Wijianti, and my student’s number is 112020036. This is my reflection about the process when I learned Extensive Listening Course this semester. First, I think my listening skill before taking this course was not good enough, because when I had to listen to content like a story, a movie, and a song. I felt confused, so I had to turn on the subtitle or search the lyrics, and I will replay it again or sing the song many times.
When I take this Extensive Listening Course, I learn about children's stories, short stories, news videos, and features/ non-fiction articles. I also make listening reports, group presentations, and listening logs in the ER-Central. But I think the most helpful topics in improving my language skill in listening are news videos and features/ non-fiction articles. When I listen to those topics, I find it difficult because those topics use a language that is harder to understand than other topics, so it is more challenging for me, and I think from that my language skill has increased.
I like and enjoy the listening reports activities. It’s because I can write on my blog, and I also can improve my writing skills. And I like the short stories because I can watch animation and it has a lot of genres, so I can choose genres that I like. After taking the Extensive Listening class, I think my language skills have improved. And when I listen to English content, I can understand what the speakers are saying and how to pronounce words correctly. Strategy to improve my listening skills in this class are listening as well as writing what I hear from the video like Miss Yessica said because I can check the words that I heard are right or wrong, and I can check the pronunciation same or not with what the speakers say by reading my note.
For the listening log in ER-Central, I think it helps me to understand the recording better because I can find a new vocabulary and also I can do the quiz after I listen to know if I understand or not. About the presentation activity I think it is useful to practice my skill in explaining, to present something, and it also trains me to be more confident when speaking in public. And for listening reports activity I think sometimes it is hard depending on the topic that I will write, but it’s good to improve my listening skills, because I need to understand in detail about the topic, so I will listen more carefully. This course is really helpful for me, but I think for listening reports if it has a more unique format it will be more fun to do it.
